Trying to defeat the rebellious voices in our heads that keep shouting for more things every day requires deception in order to make our minds believe that its wants are being fulfilled.
Student life, in LimKokWing University of Creative Technology, demands such a task to be carried out due to the lack of activities on an everyday basis that would occupy students from going out and spending money unnecessarily, to keep their day busy.
Though we have been piled up with assignments to do, these still do not hinder us from making time to have some fun and take a break from the stress of being in a university. This doesn’t include the weekends that just scream for students to go out and party especially on a Saturday night, when a bulk of money just goes missing into nothing.
The plan is to budget the whole week and make space to spend over the weekends as that has no solution- we as students need to feel that there is an equilibrium in our lives and entertainment in order to avoid the boredom of a ticking clock. Whether one is living in the hostel, or has one’s own apartment, the spending pattern usually remains the same as some students had this to say:
“I stayed in Desaria Villa while I was in my first semester and now I am living in Cyberia, my wants are the same and I spend less on transport for example, then I am spending more on something else. Budgeting requires one to restrict their outings and it is very difficult with the freedom we have been given and the lack of activities to distract us”, said Ayesha Khatri, a student of International Business in Year 2.
Budgeting is crucial to avoid crisis of being broke in the middle of the month. To resolve this, the university has to be appealed to. Though we have various events, there is nothing that all students can participate in on everyday basis or a few times a week that really gets them involved.
Instead of sitting in the plaza Students should be going around making societies of various interests, giving sports and other clubs more awareness, they may exist but no one really knows about them. The main problem is the lack of knowledge and awareness among students, and this needs to be resolved.
“Back in high school, I was always involved in sports and now I find myself just sitting in the plaza talking to people and watching passer bys. I have no idea about sport related activities in Limkokwing as there is no hype about it”, said Faisal Hourani during a survey in the university’s plaza.
Thus, we need to try to budget ourselves by getting more involved in university and coming up with things to do to occupy our free time.
